01. THE SPIRITUAL REALM
Acts 16:16–18
"As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling..."
"I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her."
And it came out that very hour.
Spiritually and physically.
Underplayed in the West.
We pursue:
Doctors
Answers
Insurance
Debt relief
Psychologists
Diet plans
7 steps
Advice
Lawyers
All of those things can be very reasonable solutions.
But not everything is spiritual.
Sometimes it's also spiritual.

In the worldview of the Bible, the spiritual and physical were deeply connected.

Sometimes in a power encounter in an instant.
Either way, it's always under the authority of one name:
JESUS.
02. YOUR BUSINESS
Acts 16:19–24
The owners see that their hope of gain is gone.
They seize Paul and Silas.
They are:
Dragged into the marketplace
Attacked by the crowd
Beaten with rods
Thrown into prison
Fastened in the stocks

"That's different."
GOD IS INVESTED IN YOUR BUSINESS.
You cannot claim to know God while building your business by exploiting people!
When Jesus saves you, He doesn't just change you, but how you conduct business.

It's not just about:
Making money
Explicitly Christian branding
It's about:
Details of your books
The way you dignify people
How you treat employees
Creating something genuinely excellent
This makes Jesus look beautiful in our city—without ever even mentioning Jesus.

03. EVERY SPHERE OF CULTURE

"There's no sphere of culture over which Jesus doesn't declare that's mine!"
THERE'S NO SPHERE THAT IS SAFE FROM CHRIST.
Their little operation is over.
They aren't concerned for her freedom.
They are disappointed by their loss of gain.
She's useful to them if she is enslaved.
But in freedom she's no longer the commodity she once was.
The demon has disinhabited her and now she's worthless to them.
She was once a cheap trick, now she's useless.
They would rather have this demon-possessed and profitable than delivered but done earning.
This is the same way the Word views us too.
The world profits from your:
Porn addiction
Screen time
Shopaholism
Parenting exhaustion
Sugar fix
Overdrinking
Loneliness
Anxiety
BREAK OUT OF THE MATRIX.
Wake up to a life of freedom in Jesus.
Jesus is a gentleman.
He doesn't exploit us.
He willingly chose to give up His life for us.
He condemned the dirty business and set this girl free.
But this resulted in:
Paul and Silas' imprisonment.
WHEN HEAVEN WINS, HELL LOSES.
Acts 16:25–27
At midnight:
Paul and Silas were praying
Paul and Silas were singing hymns
The prisoners were listening
Then:
A great earthquake
Foundations of the prison shaken
Doors opened
Everyone's bonds unfastened
Interesting parallel:
In both stories, the pagans lose when the church wins.
04. WHOLE REGIONS
Jesus said:
"I will build my church and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it."
Gates are defensive, not offensive.
That means the church is on offense.
Ephesians 6
Paul lists the armor of God.
What's not listed?
Anything covering the back.
Why?
We're always advancing as Christians.
The Jailor
The jailor wakes up.
He sees the prison doors open.
He draws his sword and is about to kill himself.
Why would the jailor kill himself?
Under Roman law, a jailer could receive the punishment intended for any prisoner who escaped.
Shame.
The jailor's story isn't over.
Acts 16:28–34
Paul cries out:
"Do not harm yourself, for we are all here."
The jailer:
Calls for lights.
Rushes in.
Trembles with fear.
Falls before Paul and Silas.
Then asks:
"Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"
They answer:
"Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."
The jailer:
Hears the word of the Lord
Washes their wounds
Is baptized
His whole family is baptized
Brings them into his house
Sets food before them
Rejoices
05. YOUR FREEDOM
Paul could have left.
I would have.
But he doesn't.
Why?
He was a Roman citizen and understood the customs.
He limited his own freedom to leverage his life for this man's salvation.
CHRISTIANS LEVERAGE THEIR LIVES FOR THE LOVE OF OTHERS.
Jesus did this for us on the CROSS.
This is what we do for those who don't know Jesus.
As a parent
How many of you can testify that we age faster?
As a Christian coworker
We should work harder and advantage those around us.
As a coach
You're investing in those kids not just for the sake of a winning team, but to help them grow in character.
Because Paul does this, the jailor is not only saved physically, he's saved eternally.
06. GENERATIONS
Don't miss this.
The jailor's WHOLE HOUSEHOLD got saved!
Acts 16:33
"He was baptized at once, he and all his family."
Multiple men in this church get saved and one by one baptized their WHOLE families.

Acts 16:40
"So they went out of the prison and visited Lydia. And when they had seen the brothers, they encouraged them and departed."
Lastly, they visit Lydia.
Lydia opened her home to start the Philippian church.
The jailor's whole home is now saved.
This formerly demonized little girl is saved.
This is an eclectic community.
