You are the primary leader for your assigned group of campers. You will stay with your group as they move through camp, help them participate in activities, keep track of your campers, and create a fun and safe environment.

You are not expected to run the entire camp or have all the answers. Your responsibility is to lead your group well!

Think of yourself as their guide, encourager, protector, and biggest hype person for the day!

Wranglers will be assigned a manageable group of campers based on age, registration numbers, and available team members.

Your exact group size will be communicated before camp!

You should know how many campers are in your group at all times. Count your campers frequently, especially before leaving one area and immediately after arriving at another.

Groups will be about 10-12 campers total.

Wranglers are not responsible for preparing or teaching a Bible lesson. Teaching moments, worship, the Gospel presentation, and large-group programming will be led by designated leaders!

Your job is to help your campers listen, participate, and engage.

There will be opportunities for simple conversations with campers about what they are learning and a discussion question sheet given! You don't need to have the perfect answer.

Listen, encourage them, and involve a pastor or camp leader when needed.

We will be memorizing Romans 5:12 together a camp!

Each day upon checking-in as a Wrangler at the Wrangler Check-In Tent, you will be handed our Wrangler bag!

Your bag will include:

• Group roster

• Camp schedule

• Pens/Sharpies

• Lanyards for campers

• Tissues/wipes

• Spray bottle for cooling campers off

• Camp-specific supplies

• Emergency/contact instructions

• Any rewards, pins, or group materials provided by camp leadership

• White flag for bathroom runs, red flag for assistance.

• Fidget Toys for discussion and waiting times

• List of ‘Get To Know You’ games

• Postcards to write to kids during camp

• …and MORE!

Keep your bag with you throughout the day and do not leave camper information unattended!

We encourage you also bring a wagon if you have one to put the bag, group sing, and camper water bottles in!

Safety always comes before the schedule.

Wranglers should:

• Never leave campers unsupervised.

• Frequently count campers.

• Keep your group together during transitions.

• Follow all check-in and check-out procedures.

• Never release a camper to someone unless the approved dismissal procedure has been followed (matching tag shown)

• Use the buddy/team system whenever possible.

• Maintain appropriate adult-to-child boundaries.

• No kids sitting on laps.

• Never be alone one-on-one with a camper in an isolated area.

• Immediately report injuries, unsafe situations, missing campers, concerning behavior, or anything that feels unusual to your direct report.

• Follow directions from camp leadership during an emergency.

If you're unsure whether something needs to be reported, report it to your direct lead immediately.

Immediately alert camp leadership.

Do not quietly search for the camper by yourself or leave the rest of your group unattended.

Keep your remaining campers together with Wrangler partner, notify the appropriate direct report, and follow the camp's missing-child procedure.

Never delay reporting a missing camper.

If you need help with behavior, bathroom needs, a camper who is upset, an injury, a schedule question, or simply feel overwhelmed, contact your designated camp leader/director.

Getting help is good leadership.

Notify the designated medical/Ranch Hand team immediately. (Ranch Hand/Medic lead is Kaitlyn McIntosh)

Do not diagnose a camper or give medication .

For minor injuries, follow camp procedures and involve the Ranch Hand team as directed.

For anything that appears serious or life-threatening, immediately get emergency assistance and follow camp emergency procedures.

Any known allergies, medical concerns, or accommodations relevant to your group will be communicated according to camp procedures, as well listed on your roster.

Ranch Hand will also have generic medical items like bandaids, etc.

Take them seriously.

Ask simple questions like, "Can you tell me what you're feeling?" and notify the Ranch Hand team.

Do not tell a camper they're "fine" or encourage them to push through something when they say they are sick, hurt, dizzy, overheated, or otherwise unwell.

Follow the camp's bathroom safety procedure.

Raise the white flag! We have a designated “Nature’s Caller’s’ team! Their role is to safely escort campers to the bathroom with a Safety Team member as well.l

Wranglers should never create a situation where they are isolated one-on-one with a camper.

If you need a restroom break, raise the white flag and a volunteer will set in of for you! Use designated volunteer/adult bathrooms ONLY and follow the buddy/team-member procedures explained during training.

Stay calm and encouraging.

Help them feel safe and included. Sometimes a camper simply needs a few minutes, a drink of water, or someone to stay close to them.

If they remain distressed or ask to contact their parent/guardian, involve your direct report. Wranglers should not independently contact parents.

Start with calm redirection.

Remind the camper what you want them to do rather than only telling them what they're doing wrong.

Whenever possible, redirect quietly rather than embarrassing a camper in front of the group.

If behavior becomes disruptive, unsafe, aggressive, or repeatedly prevents the group from participating, ask leadership for assistance.

You are a Wrangler—not the camp disciplinarian. Don't get into a power struggle with a camper.

Listen. Stay calm. Don't interrogate them, promise secrecy, or attempt to investigate the situation yourself.

Tell the camper something simple like, "Thank you for telling me."

Then immediately report the conversation to your direct lead according to Garden Church child-safety procedures. They will take the situation from there.

Each camp day, Wranglers should arrive at the designated team-member arrival time, check in, attend Huddle Time, get their Wrangler bag/materials, review their roster, and prepare to welcome campers.

When campers arrive, we want Wranglers ready to focus on people—not paperwork.

Your primary responsibility is always your campers!

Throughout camp, Wranglers may also be asked to help with simple things like transitions, cleanup, passing out supplies, encouraging participation, resetting an area, or helping another team.

However, never leave your assigned campers to complete another task unless another approved leader has taken responsibility for your group.

You will also be give postcards to write a note to your camper encouraging them and telling them how much you enjoyed them being in your group! Maybe even an invite to Garden Kids if they haven't been!

We will supply these in your bags!
The Camp Director will address and put them into the mail the last day of camp!

You set the temperature for your group.

If you're excited, they're more likely to be excited. If you're doing the hand motions, cheering, laughing, answering questions, and participating, your campers are much more likely to join in.

You don't have to be the loudest person at camp—but be present and engaged.

Encourage without embarrassing them.

Some kids jump into everything immediately. Others need time to watch before participating.

Invite them in, stay positive, and look for ways they can participate. Our goal isn't to force kids into activities. Our goal is to help them feel safe enough to join us.

Sit with your campers.

Help them settle in, model listening, participate when the MC asks for responses, and gently redirect distractions.

This is not your break time. Your presence during teaching helps create the environment where campers can hear the Gospel clearly.

This is an incredible opportunity!

Listen to them. Ask simple questions. Don't pressure them into a response or feel like you need to manufacture a "moment."

When appropriate, bring in a camp leader who can help continue the conversation! We will have Bibles on site to handout to campers who receive Jesus!

No kid is too far gone, too difficult, too distracted, or too different to be welcomed by Jesus.

KNOW YOUR KIDS. KEEP THEM SAFE. MAKE THEM FEEL SEEN. POINT THEM TO JESUS.

Years from now, a camper may not remember every game they played or activity they completed.

But they may remember the Wrangler who learned their name.

The Wrangler who noticed them.

The Wrangler who cheered for them.

The Wrangler who sat beside them when they were nervous.

The Wrangler who showed them what the love of Jesus looks like.

That's the job.
